Downtown Toronto Condominium communities are increasing with a better educated, and wealthier population, growing by 65 percent in the last 30years and almost 10 percent in the last five years.

Toronto’s downtown growth increased by 17,000 housing units between 2001 and 2006. The population stands at 169,000 up from 102,000 in 2001.

1976 The year the city of Toronto approved the Central Area Plan designed to encourage residential development in the downtown area.

65% Increase in the downtown area population over the last 30 years. (In Toronto the overall growth was 18%.)

10% Increase in population in the Core area in the past 5 years.

17,000 residential units built and occupied in downtown Toronto between 2001 and 2006.

39,000 further residential units expected from the some 155 residential projects currently ready for development.

Half the homes built since 2001 are occupied by adults 25 to 39 years of age.

4% of the homes built since 2001 have children up to the age of 19.

84% of newer dwellings downtown are occupied by singles or couples without children.

77% of residents living in a newer dwelling have a university degree; 23% have post-graduate degrees.

70% of households living in newer dwellings earn more than $60,000  per year.
